Join us for Military Appreciation Days, May 28-30, 2009, in the City of Myrtle Beach!  We are celebrating active and retired military from all branches of the service with a full slate of activities.  More than two dozen military bases have been invited, along with retired military personnel from the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and beyond.  Thank you for your service to our nation!

  • 5K Run/Walk The Market Common, Wheelchairs at 8 a.m. and Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. (free for active and retired military; $20 for civilians)

  • Combat Cuisine Cook-Off (military teams) Grand Park, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

  • Family Picnic and Concert – Valor Memorial Garden, 11:45 a.m., featuring the 282nd Army "Victory" Band (free admission; canned food drive by the South Carolina State Guard)

  • Model Boat Races – Grand Park, 1 p.m.

  • Model Airplane Demonstrations – Grand Park, 1 p.m.

  • Climbing Wall, Simulators, Humvee – Grand Park, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

  • Military Recruiter Expo Grand Park, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

  • Festive Brass Concert – Valor Memorial Garden, 3 p.m.

  • Memorial and Awards Ceremony – Valor Memorial Garden, 4 p.m. 

  • USAF Heritage of America Blue Aces Band Concert – Grand Park, 7:30 p.m. (free admission)

  • Fireworks – Grand Park, following the concert

Then, follow directions in the PDF file.  Many local accommodations, restaurants and businesses also are offering discounts to active duty and retired military personnel and their families. 

 

Military Appreciation Days are sponsored by the City of Myrtle Beach, the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority and PGBA, LLC.  Many of the activities and events will be held at The Market Common and Grand Park, both part of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.  Valor Memorial Garden at The Market Common is shown at left.  We hope you enjoy your visit!
